Ultrasonics

Ultrasonic welding joins plastic parts by rapidly transmitting energy through a shaped tool or “horn” with one part being rigidly supported in a nest fixture. This process creates mechanical vibrations, friction, and heat to form a permanent bond between the parts. Ultrasonic welding permits fast and clean assemblies. Since no adhesives or fasteners are used, ultrasonic welding minimizes risks to both the environment and employee safety by removing potentially hazardous materials from this stage of manufacturing. Thus, many industries have chosen ultrasonic welding as the preferred method of joining thermoplastic parts.
The art of ultrasonic welding is our forte. Let us help you select the optimal frequency/power configuration for you application. The three available frequencies of 15, 20, and 40 kHz make a broad range of applications possible. Generally, the size and configuration of the plastic parts to be welded will determine which device and frequency level appropriate. Since no adhesives, solvents or mechanical fasteners are used, ultrasonically welded thermoplastic parts can be readily identified as being recyclable.
In addition to welding, ultrasonic systems can be used to insert, stake, and spot weld a wide range of materials in various sizes.
The ultrasonic equipment we offer can be supplied with a choice of several different power supplies. The power supplies are available with outputs of 2500 and 4000 watts at 15 kHz, 1200, 1700, 2200, and 3000 watts at 20 kHz and 700 watts at 40 kHz. In addition bench top ultrasonic hand welders are available in similar frequency to meet your low volume or process development needs.
